Céline Galipeau is the weekday anchor of Radio-Canada/TV’s flagship newscast, LeTéléjournal, having taken over the network anchor slot from Bernard Derome in December, 2008. She had been the program’s weekend anchor for five years after working as a foreign correspondent for both the French and English networks of CBC/Radio-Canada for almost a decade.

Galipeau earned a Master’s degree in political science and sociology from McGill University in 1983, after studying English Literature at the Al-Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan and, later, political science at Birzeit University in the West Bank.

After working briefly in commercial television and radio, she joined Radio-Canada in 1985 and worked as a reporter in Toronto and Montréal, before being appointed a foreign correspondent in 1992, serving first in London and then in Moscow, where she covered Boris Yeltsin and the war in Chechnya, winning a Gemini Award. Galipeau had two more foreign postings, in Paris and Beijing, before returning to Canada and becoming weekend anchor for Le Téléjournal in 2003.
